TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — A longtime educator who teaches music to elementary students is named Tupelo’s Teacher of the Year. Lynne Mize was honored at the district’s school board meeting this evening.  Mize has been a teacher for more than 30 years and has taught the past five years at Joyner. She played a key role in helping Pierce Street Elementary and other schools implement the Mississippi Arts Commission’s arts integration program and says teaching is a passion.

“You do give of yourself completely, we know that any child that walks in our classroom they’re going to be showered with the most love that they possibly could love and we just feel the utmost responsibility to develop the potential of every child and to instill that love of learning with them.”

Mize will represent TPSD in the competition for state teacher of the year.
