TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s Monday morning and Joseph Guyton is pushing his client Kelly Kenney through a tough workout at Snap Fitness.

As a personal trainer, the 32 year old loves to share his passion for physical fitness with others, helping them reach and exceed their goals. He also realizes that each day is a gift.

“When I was 16 months old, Labor Day 1984 I was run over by a car and I was dragged by the left side of my face, that’s why the skin graft is here, I’ve had multiple plastic surgeries, broken ribs, collapsed lung, injured kidney, fractured skull, I had a five percent chance to live.”

He spent 6 months in the hospital and endured many surgeries in the coming years.

“Growing up, with scars on the side of your face, imagine how tragic that was for a little kid and not understanding, not liking it, wishing it would go away.”

Since he was a kid, Joseph has been a fan of superheroes, his favorite is Spiderman. He believes it was destiny for him to become a personal trainer to help others fulfill their calling.

“I’m sure there are people out there with similar situations, they’ve had tragic accidents, cancer, pneumonia and God got them out of the hospital, He healed them, it wasn’t just the doctors, God allowed you to come back. Ask yourself, what is the purpose for your life, what is the reason God still has you on this planet, what are you supposed to be doing and if you’re supposed to be doing something, you can’t do it if you’re sick, you can’t do it if you’re not healthy, working out has its benefits.”

Kelly Kenney says Joseph is an inspiration who has helped her come back strong, 8 months after she underwent a total hip replacement.

“He and I are a lot alike in a lot of ways, don’t take no for an answer, everybody can do something, it doesn’t matter how young, old you are, what your body has been through, you get with the right person like Joseph and they can put together a program for you.”
Joseph Guyton encourages people to look at fitness and healthy eating as a lifestyle. And he is proof that any obstacle can be conquered. In Tupelo I’m Allie Martin WCBI News.
