TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – A veteran of the United States Marines continues a weeklong campout at the Mall at Barnes Crossing .

Scott Burns has spent more than 3 days at the mall, as part of a fundraiser for “Purple Heart Homes.”

Burns is collecting money from mall patrons, who come to the food court.  All proceeds will help renovate a disabled veteran’s home.

In fact, Burns is a disabled veteran and says there is no better time to support the fundraiser with July Fourth just around the corner.

“And people kind of take those days for granted that they’re just a holiday to take off from work and to go eat, cook out and that’s great but we have to remember the reason we can do that is because there’s men and women who are fighting and have fought for those freedoms that we get to enjoy,” Burns said.

Burns will finish his mall campout Saturday at noon.
