TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Famous African Americans such as Oprah Winfrey,  George Washington Carver,  Jerry Rice and even First Lady Michelle Obama, were at one Tupelo school this morning. Throughout February, Lawndale Elementary fourth graders have studied the contributions made by African Americans, as part of Black History Month. So this morning,  students held a living wax museum and dressed up as their favorite historical character, complete with storyboards for parents and visitors. It was an opportunity for students to learn about African Americans and the important roles they have played and are playing in this nation.

“Definitely they are learning about their person and learning positive impact they made in society. The Students were able to become that person , and definitely get involved in the wax museum and they are really enjoying it,” said Annette Akins, a fourth grade teacher at Lawndale Elementary.

More than 250 students took part in the wax museum.
