WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) -A community forum hosted by the West Point Police Department to discuss a new bill drew a small crowd.  District Attorney Forrest Allgood and Assistant DA Katie Moulds discussed the recently passed House Bill 585, which focuses on property and business theft..

Business owners were briefed on some of the overarching and smaller aspects of the new bill, which spotlights freeing up overcrowded jails. Police Chief Tim Brinkley said the new bill, which lessens the criteria for some crimes to qualify as a felony offense, would double his department’s workload.

Allgood said the new bill is ” a game changer”.
