CALEDONIA, Miss. (WCBI) – A number of students apply but less than 50 are selected for the summer leadership conference.
And two of those students are from the same school.

August Fort and Hunter Harris, 8th graders at Caledonia Middle School, have been selected to attend the Trent Lott Summer Leadership Institute.

The program is for rising 9th graders and it’s designed to develop leadership and critical thinking skills.

Students selected to attend are responsible leaders inside and outside the classroom and must meet a number of specific requirements.

The young men say they are excited to bring back what they learn to their local community.
“I’m hoping to learn about more leadership traits and characteristics and how to be a better leaders and kind of bring that back here,” said 8th grader Hunter Harris.

“I’m very excited. This should be a very good experience. The first experience me and Hunter will have with college,” said 8th grader August Fort.

The two are still raising money for their trip.
