NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WCBI) – Some Union County Residents had the chance to sign up for health care insurance this weekend.

The Masonic Lodge opened up its doors so residents could learn more about and sign up for insurance under the Affordable Health Care Act, also known as Obamacare.

Jennifer Jones hosted the event and said she was pleased with the turnout.

“A very heavy flow,” Jones said. “People were on time this morning and got signed up or left their names so they could be contacted at a later date and go on to work. So we appreciate people coming out. We just don’t want anyone to miss the deadline and be fined unnecessarily.”

Jones says that deadline is March 31 and the fine is $95 for adults.

There was also a representative from the designated Affordable Care Act health care provider for Union County to answer any questions.

Jones says they might organize another time for people to get signed up.
