COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Today is :”Giving Tuesday”, a day dedicated to giving back and Verizon is doing just that.

A $2,000 check was given to help support Safe Haven’s Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Programs.

The money was raised through the Hope Line initiative, a Verizon program that collects no-longer-used mobile phones, refurbishes the devices and loads each phone with free minutes, then donates them to domestic violence shelters for use by victims.

“It takes a community to stop domestic violence and organizations like Safe Haven, it’s imperative they have help. So we help financially, you all can help by donating your used phones or accessories and keeping that going,” said Verizon District Manager, Lori Singleton.

Four checks were presented to non-profit organizations in North Mississippi as part of “Giving Tuesday.”
