COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – For 63 years it served as “home field” to three high schools in Columbus, but it hasn’t hosted a game since 1998. Soon the Magnolia Bowl could be getting new life as a walking track and outdoor classroom. The first phase will be demolition of the grandstand, press box, and concession stand, and the construction of labyrinth style walking track.

EPA environmental studies have failed to turn up any contaminants in the field or stands. The school district will make a formal request for the city to begin demolition work at Tuesday’s Council meeting.

Some of the walking track construction cost will be covered by A Blue Cross Blue Shield Passport to Wellness Grant
