Water Valley, Miss.[WCBI]-The news spread quickly to Davidson Elementary School Friday morning.

Dr. Carol Gary had been principal at the school for 12 years before leaving for a job in South Panola then returned.

Friday morning, students wrote messages in memory of their principal on a poster board.

Water Valley School Superintendent Kim Chrestman was also on campus to provide support to students and staff.

It was a calm, but somber atmosphere as school official, students, friends, and faculty digested all of what has happened to one of their own.

Flowers placed at the entrance of Davidson Elementary School….a solemn reminder of the violence that hit home.

WCBI News spoke to a man who knows the victims and has a cousin that attends that school. For him, educating the children in that part of Water Valley has been dealt a huge blow.

Mike Johnson/Water Valley “This is an educator. this is one of the ones that educate our kids, and we are very upset about it and we, want to get to the bottom of it. and we want certainly don’t want this happening any more,” said Mike Johnson, Water Valley.

Dr. Carol Gary was well known by her students and colleagues, and officials say they are in deed feeling a loss.

“She exemplified everything we stand for and i know the faculty and staff and the students just absolutely loved her,” said Kim Chrestman, Water Valley Schools Superintendent.

“Well everyone is very saddened about it and some of them are feeling very helpless because they don’t know what they can do,” said Johnson.

There maybe thoughts of just who would replace this valuable educator, something school officials will deal with later….but right now there is a grieving process well underway in the school district.

“This is going to be a blow to our community, our school. Dr. Gary was much loved and appreciated,” said Chrestman.

Pastors and other counselors have been called in to help students and faculty cope with the tragedy.
