EUPORA, Miss.(WCBI) — 21 months after their historic courthouse burned in a blizzard, Webster County officials are a few steps closer to starting work on a new state-of-the-art courthouse.

The county has purchased 5 acres on the west side of Highway 9 near Highway 50 for the new building.

Public Information Officer Jimmy Forrester says bids are being taken to clear and sell timber on the site.

Meanwhile the county attorney and the insurance company continue to negotiate details of a financial settlement.

But no actual groundbreaking date has been set.

In a non-binding referendum earlier this year, county voters said they wanted the courthouse to be rebuilt in Walthall.
