PICKENS COUNTY, AL. (WCBI) — Financial cutbacks are forcing one West Alabama hospital to cut a four year old program.

Starting July 1st, Pickens County Medical Center will no longer offer their hospitalize program.

Hospitalists are physicians whose main focus is to care for hospitalized patients.

Cutting the program is said to cause a high demand for physicians on nights and weekends, but it will have a positive impact on the budget.

The hospital board held a meeting Tuesday night to discuss more on the matter.

The medical center laid off 14 employees back in May to help save the hospital about $855,000 a year.
