WEST POINT, Miss.(WCBI) — A quilting circle group formed 8 years ago has been meeting at Marshal Park in West Point. Monday they were displaying their work at an end of the year Christmas Gala.

This committed sewing circle of seasoned and gifted ladies, have been crafting beautiful quilts since their first session held February 13th 2006. And they make it seem so easy, a synch to put together.

“Now if you’re really interest in quilting it won’t take you that long, because you’re going to put your mind to what you are trying to do. It won’t take that long. Its just the basic part that I teach. Anybody learns the basics they can pick it up and they can carry it on,” said Essie D. Thomas, Quilting Queen.

The ladies have been working on the beautiful quilts all year round. Now they are ready, just in time for holiday gift giving.

Stitching the pieces of fabric together requires team work, and when finished, everybody rejoices in everyone of the lovely creations.

“We come out here, we do our work together. Its a group thing. If I have a quilt, all of us work on my quilt. If the next person have a quilt we all work on that person’s quilt until we get it completed,” said Essie Thomas.

These multicolored quilts both warm the heart as well as the body on those cold winter nights. These quilting classes do require stitchability, some who started out with the group tore themselves apart at the seems which made the whole group a unit of artisans.

“And one of them, she dropped out the first of the year but I wish she had of been here cause you’d be amazed at what she had accomplished. Couldn’t cut, couldn’t sew, couldn’t do anything. But when we got through with her, she could turn out some quilts,” said Thomas.

Members of the quilting circle meet every Monday for a two hours session.
