WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI)-With land prices devalued and the community still hungry for jobs, today’s [Friday] action by the Legislature is great news for those who depend on real estate and just about anything else to pay the bills.  Some of the folks say they already are seeing a sense of optimism following today’s action by the Legislature in welcoming Yokohoma Tire Corporation to West Point.  Its been tough in the city of West Point for the last few years.  One insurance and real estate agent trying to do business there has met with difficulty, but is hoping with the latest news of Yokohama Tire coming to town, things will change.  “We had a hard time and this is really welcomed news,” said Richard South, Real Estate Agent.  Real estate agent Richard South has been experiencing a buyers market for quite a while now and is looking for some daylight beyond the horizon.

“In other words we have sold properties ten, twenty, thirty percent below the appraised value because of people that needed to release the property for whatever reason. They had other things that they needed to do,” said South.  South who has been experiencing a market where properties have been badly under priced has seen homes valued at 87 thousand dollars sold for fifty thousand dollars. Businesses in the Point City and the rest of the Golden Triangle are waiting to reap the benefits from a megasite they hope will one day be a haven where economic development partners and consumers meet,” said South.  “We’re really looking forward to this. We’re anxious to know whats coming and hope that its something that will provide us some jobs for the ones we have lost in the past,” said South.  West Point and Clay County officially will welcome Yokohama officials to town during a ceremony Monday morning at 10-30 at The Ritz conference center in downtown West Point.
