LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-Many want to know what happens next with little Maliah.

Defense Attorney Carrie Jourdan says Georgia’s Human Services Department will likely have a shelter hearing where they’ll determine probable cause that the child might be in danger based on the facts and suspicious death of 7 month old Alyssa Harris. Miliah will most likely return to Lowndes County’s Department of Human Services.

“A full blown hearing will be scheduled on the merit where parents will have the opportunity to obtain a lawyer and potentially defend themselves. It will also allow the state to have an opportunity to investigate the case,” says Attorney Jourdan.

Because of the investigation, it may take a while before family members get Maliah back. Jourdan also says courts will most likely consider them abandoning their child before they consider releasing the child into the parents custody.
