STARKVILLE, Miss (WCBI) — Mississippi State University’s Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Aquaculture is hosting Conservation Camp: Wildlife Recreation Edition, a residential camp for young people ages 11 to 18.

The camp provides outdoor recreation such as archery, canoeing and skeet shooting. Students may get certified in Hunter’s education ans will learn about Mississippi’s diverse wildlife.

“We feel like it’s important to have camps like this because kids are increasingly disconnected from what’s happening outside their own homes,” says camp director Leslie Burger. “They spend a lot of time plugged into electronics and meanwhile we have these critical issues in the environment.”

Camp activities include birding, canoeing, scuba diving, fishing, fly-typing and animal trapping. Educational topics include wildlife habitats, wildlife calls and nocturnal animals.

The camp will last 3 1/2 days.
