Video: With School Bond Passed, Lowndes County Starts Planning Projects

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Lowndes County officials are busy planning how to use a 44 million dollar bond issue that was passed during Tuesday’s election.

The money will go towards building a new career tech center, a new New Hope High School, and upgrades at West Lowndes and Caledonia. School officials say the district must meet with a lawyer to get the bonds issued and sold.  Then the district will bid contracts to construction companies.
Superintendent Lynn Wright and Dr. Robin Ballard say getting the bond issue passed was the easy part. The hard part will be planning out each project.

“It’s been such a process….With not having the first one pass and now this one passed. I was like (sharp gasp)..ok now the hard part comes”

“We’ll be trying to finalize some plans as we get ready for the bonds to be sold and issued.”

Wright says construction could take up to 18 months. No word yet on which project the district will start first.
