STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – March is Women’s History month and in our final segment, we spotlight one of the most successful women in state politics, Amy Tuck.

“It’s a tremendous honor to have had the opportunity to serve in the 2nd highest office of our state,” says Tuck.

Amy Tuck is one of two women to become Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi and the first to be re-elected. Tuck says running for state-wide office as a woman requires tenacity but most of all, great qualifications.

“I think it’s important as a female candidate to first of all show that you have a plan, that you have a goal, that you have several goals that you want to implement. But also to show that you are a qualified candidate,” says Tuck.

Tuck served as a State Senator for five years before becoming Lieutenant Governor in 1999. She says being a woman on the campaign trail is about letting voters know you will serve all people.

“You have to go in with the mindset that I’m here to represent everyone and use that qualified-woman perspective,” says Tuck.

Today Tuck is the Vice President for Campus Services at her alma mater, Mississippi State University. Serving the student body has allowed Tuck to get a glimpse of what the future holds for women in Mississippi politics.

“I think our future’s bright. We have a lot of young ladies that I see every day that are going to be terrific leaders,” says Tuck.

So what’s next for Amy Tuck? She says she wants to continue serving at Mississippi State and most importantly, loving the Magnolia State.

Amy Tuck was born and raised in Maben and received her law degree from Mississippi College.
