COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) -After almost a decade of planning, major improvements to a busy Northside Columbus street are about to begin. In two weeks contractors will begin work cleaning creosote from a ditch along 14th Avenue North.

The ditch will be sealed and another contractor will widen the road to three lanes from 20th Street to the railroad. A third contractor will repave the road. The work should be finished by next May.

The Corps of Engineers, an environmental Trust set up to oversee the Kerr McGee cleanup and the city are paying for the one point two million dollar project.
