WPPD Hosts Forum with Business Owners to Discuss New Law

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — The West Point Police Department is hosting a forum for local business owners about a new law that could affect them in the future.

House Bill 385 took effect on July 1, and was designed to curb prison growth.

Katie Moulds with the District Attorney’s says the most significant change business owners must understand is that they have to suffer a $1,000 loss for it to be a felony.

Business owners can also find out more about property crimes, shoplifting, forgery and grand larceny and the new punishments that come with these convictions.

The meeting will be held Tuesday night at 6 p.m in the West Point Police Department courtroom.
