COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)-Columbus city schools may take a different approach to its year-long effort to sell at least one if not two of its vacant school buildings. The school board will ask a bond attorney for advice on whether the former Lee Middle School could generate revenue through an agreement with a private company. Last June, the board rejected a $170,000 dollar bid from Point of Grace Church for the 14-acre site along Highway 82 and Military Road. The bid was well below the site’s appraised price . Monday (1-14-13) night, the church said it’s still interested but the school board wants to consider other options first for Lee and the Brandon Central Services building. The district wants to sell the two sites to raise revenue and cut down on maintenance expenses.
