COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Volunteers are getting a head start on preparing a big Thanksgiving meal.

Columbus Police Officers, along with community members, were at Stokes Beard Elementary to start cooking turkey, dressing and all the trimmings.

Every year local businesses, organizations and individuals donate turkeys and other food to give to those in need.

This year, 1,400 plates are being delivered.

Organizers say it’s all possible thanks to volunteers.

“For 21 years, we’ve been able to get the volunteers and people feeling the way we do about wanting to help others that will come out and help us tomorrow,” said organizer, Annie Barry.

If you would like to volunteer, show up at Stokes Beard around 8 am.
