Voters in Tupelo’s Ward 3 Head to the Polls Thursday for Special Election

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) -Some voters in Tupelo will be headed to the polls Thursday.  A special election is being held to fill the City Council seat for Ward 3. The position was left vacant when Jim Newell resigned after moving out of the Ward.

The Special Election is non-partisan. Vying for the position are: Travis Beard, Ed Breedlove, Mike Coutoumanos, Lorna Holliday-McGee, James Hull, James “Jim” Pitts, and Derek Russell. Polling places will be the Lee County Courthouse and Lawndale Presbyterian Church. Polls will be open from 7 AM to 7PM.

If necessary a runoff will be held Thursday September 18th.

The winner of the election will serve a term that expires June 30, 2017.
