COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Water is starting to recede near the John C. Stennis Lock and Dam but a sunken barge remains in place.

All of the gates are open at the Columbus lock.

A barge that sank on Monday morning is restricting water flow.

However, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Operations Manager Rick Saucer says the water level near the lock has gone down four tenths of a foot.

At its highest, the water level was 166.03 feet.

The sunken barge cannot be moved until the water level recedes and the current slows.
