Water to Run ‘Red’ in Chickasaw County Creek

CHICKASAW COUNTY, Miss. — Beginning Wednesday, September 10, the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) will be monitoring the water quality in Chico Creek in Chickasaw County near Houston.

One of the tests will use a dye that will temporarily color the water red like tomato soup.

This dye is a non-toxic biodegradable chemical, is safe for contact with humans and aquatic life, and is approved for this use by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

If you see this red dye in the water, please avoid contact as it may stain clothing and shoes.
