WEBSTER COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Webster County law enforcement receive more training on how to respond to an active shooter at a school.

The drill happened at East Webster High School Tuesday morning.

Law enforcement from Webster and Oktibbeha Counties, along with Mathiston police, participated.

State and local emergency management were also on hand.

In the scenario, deputies responded to a report of two active shooters on campus.

They also had to contend with a homemade bomb.

Organizers say the training could save lives.

“We help develop a scenario to test the emergency plans and procedures that are in place for each entity, to give them a chance to evaluate and hopefully find corrective action,” said Andrew McMillin, Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. “In this, if we do not find corrective action, then we wasted everybody’s time in doing such.”

Webster County EMA asked MEMA to coordinate the drill.
