LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) The nationally recognized West Lowndes High School ROTC program held their first annual celebration Monday afternoon.

The program is commanded by Major James Woodson and ranks in the top 1% of ROTC programs in the nation. The celebration  included a BBQ and motivational talks from former and present military officers.

“When I first stepped into Junior ROTC I wasn’t disciplined at all. But through the 4 years I learned a lot. I’m more self disciplined, I have more motivation, self confidence, pride, and I’m determined,” said  Bridgett Young, West Lowndes Senior.

The West Lowndes County ROTC program also been proven to increase school attendance and graduation rates.
