WEST POINT, Miss. (Press Release) — A Saturday evening stabbing left a woman injured and one man in jail.

At 5:38 p.m., E911 dispatched police to a home on Falcon Street. The caller reported that she had been stabbed.

Upon arrival officers discovered a 31-year-old female, whose name is not being released, suffering from multiple stab wounds to her upper thigh and abdomen. She was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus for treatment. Her condition is not known.

Police are still investigating the motive for the assault.

From evidence collected at the scene and statements from the victim and witnesses, 25-year-old Elswin Lamar Ewing (aka; Pookie Love) was arrested at a Rogers Road residence on the north side of West Point and charged with aggravate assault.

Ewing is being held in the Clay County Detention Center. His bond has been set at $50,000.

In a separate incident later that evening, one man was shot.

Shortly after 7 p.m., police were dispatched to the North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point (NMMC-WP) in reference to a man in the ER suffering from a gunshot wound. The name of the injured man is not being released but police learned that the incident occurred at a residence on Critz Street in the center of town just off Main Street.

Shortly thereafter, police arrested 65-year-old John Brown of 469 Critz Street and charged him with aggravated assault.

According to witnesses there was some type of altercation which led to the shooting.

The relationship between the victim and the shooter is under investigation. The victim was treated and released from the NMMC-WP for a gunshot wound to the leg.

Brown is currently incarcerated in the Clay County Detention Center. Bond has been set at $10,000.

“It appears to have been a violent weekend in the city, but I’m thankful that officers were able to follow leads and make arrests very quickly,” West Point Police Chief Tim Brinkley said.
