West Point, MS, Tuesday, September 10, 2013: (PRESS RELEASE)Around 4:00pm yesterday afternoon (9/9/13) investigators with the West Point Police Department arrested a local man in connection with a string of burglaries dating back to early 2013. According to Acting Chief Investigator Albert Lee, “This arrest is the culmination of an intensive investigation that started with tips from the community.” Since mid-spring the community has been plagued with auto burglaries that were occurring at night after many residents had retired for the night.

His last known address was 330 6th Street in West Point. He has been initially charged with 37 counts of burglary most of which are auto burglaries.

The Police Department expects to amend the charges in the next few days to include additional charges as evidence is still being processed. Chief Brinkley stated,

“Mr. Edwards is currently being held in the Clay County Jail under a $160,000 bond. However as new evidence is processed we also expect this bond amount to increase as the charges are amended”.

The Department also has evidence and tips that suggest that Mr. Edwards may not have acted alone on many of the crimes. Therefore, other arrests are pending. These cases are still under investigation and anyone with information about these are any unrelated crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers or the West Point Police Department at (662) 494-1244.
