West Point Police Investigate Stabbing

West Point, MS, Monday November 21, 2013:

West Point Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred late Wednesday night at an undetermined location. Shortly after 10:00pm officers were called to the Oak Park Apartment Complex on Cromwell Street in reference to a man who had been stabbed. Upon arrival officer discovered a man sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot suffering from two stab wounds to the upper torso.

The man, whose name is not being released, appeared to be very intoxicated and due to his injuries was incoherent. However, investigators on the scene quickly determined that the assault actually occurred at another location and the victim drove himself to the location where police were called. It’s still not clear where the stabbing took place.

Since the incident didn’t take place at the location of the E911 call, bystanders on the scene couldn’t provide any details about what happened. Emergency Medical Personnel were call to the scene and the victim was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus for treatment. His condition is not known.

The police department has questioned a person of interest in this case and expects to make an arrest very soon. According to Chief Brinkley, “Due to his injuries we weren’t able to get much out of the victim at the scene but once he has recovered enough to speak we anticipate getting the evidence we need to make an arrest.”
