WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — RV parks that have enjoyed a financial boom during the economic development surge in Lowndes County in the last eight years won’t be coming to West Point.

Selectmen voted unanimously not to amend the city’s zoning codes to allow the parks inside the city. The board’s decision doesn’t prevent the parks from opening in the county outside of West Point.

Construction workers often travel from job to job in recreational vehicles and the region is expected to see a surge of them when construction starts on the new Yokohama Tire plant north of West Point.

“There probably will be some development in the county and if the city can assist in any way the city will, but as far as being inside the city limits, it’s a dead issue. They voted 5-0 not to allow them,” Mayor Robbie Robinson said of the selectmen’s decision.

Selectmen did approve this week some steps toward infrastructure and related work on the Yokohama site where construction is expected to begin by October.
