WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – A special election to decide if the city of West Point will raise their tourism tax by one percent is set to take place on Saturday September 8th.

West Point voters will go to the polls and if approved, the extra one percent will be levied on the city’s restaurants, hotels and motels.

The revenue will go to the West Point/Clay Growth Alliance, which officials say can expect to receive about $200,000 a year in addition to the $150,000 already given by the city.

In order to pass, 60% of the votes would be needed.
