Wife, Brother, And Sister Arrested In Union County Escape Investigation

NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WCBI) – The wife, brother and sister of the man who escaped the Union County jail are all behind bars.

Sheriff Jimmy Edwards says Michael Shafer’s wife, Crystal, brother Timothy, and sister Sarah Nicole Datakji are in custody.

Edwards says Datakji was arrested in Benton County. Timothy Shafer was arrested in Union County. Crystal Shafer was arrested in Winston County.

Edwards says the trio will be formally charged Monday when their bond will be set.

They could be charged with conspiracy or aiding and abetting.

Michael Shafer was arrested early this morning at his mother’s house in the southern Winston County community of Nanih Waiya.

He faces an escape charge.

Shafer was in the Union County jail on a probation violation, after being arrested in Winston County.
