Wife Formally Charged in Husband’s Murder

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A family torn apart. A wife is charged with killing her husband. Her mother is charged as well.

Christina Martinez Vasquez is charged with murder in in the death of her husband, Manuel Vasquez.

The suspect made her first appearance in Lowndes County Justice court just before five Monday. During the brief appearance, Judge Ron Cook read the formal charges to Martinez Vasquez and set her bond at 500 thousand dollars.

Her mother, Lydia Martinez is also charged with murder but a formal arraignment for her has not been set.

Human remains were found at the Vasquez’s home on Wind Chase Drive in New Hope, where the couple lived with their three children and Martinez.

Family members say Vasquez was last seen on June 24th. That’s when they say his wife says he told her he was going on a retreat at an unknown location with an unknown person, possibly with a large amount of money.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant says human remains were found outside of the couple’s New Hope home.

Those remains have been taken to the crime lab in Jackson. DNA samples have been taken from family members.
