Louisville, Miss. (WCBI) — The Winston Plywood project construction is almost complete and the hiring process is being prepared, said directors of the Winston County Economic Development Partnership.

Executive director Gerald Mills said the exterior construction of the facility is about to be complete and the construction is being complete inside the building by placing equipment inside. An access road to enter the log yard is in the works.

Mills said the Partnership and Winston Plywood and Veneer are currently working with East Central Community College, the Win Job Center, and other state agencies to starting getting people qualified for positions and create a concrete pre-application process as well as interviewing.

Mills also said “40 to 50 people” have been hired already and that 200 people were hired for construction.

The project is giving “people hope for jobs”, said Mills of the Winston Plywood and Veneer.

“It’s given us a ray of hope ever since the tornado and basically since the economic downturn…”, Mills said, “…[Winston Plywood and Veneer] have come in and been such great corporate citizens and they contributed to our rebuilding effort and…been instrumental with getting houses rebuilt…”

Mills is hopeful the plywood facility will be open and doing business in June.

Mills also said reconstruction on the roofing and interior walls is almost complete on the former Teter’s building, and that the Partnership is beginning to market the building. Mills said the economic development organization is already receiving interest for the 400,000 square foot facility.

Mills is also looking forward to the groundbreaking of a new hospital coming up in April.

“This is a good time, we’re seeing the economy begin to rebound and come back so it’s a really exciting time to be in economic development”, said Mills.
