WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-They’re growing quite the haul at Dean Park in Louisville. Squash, turnips, lettuce, broccoli, mustard collards, and hulled peas are a few of the vegetables that the Friends of Dean Park Incorporated and members of TRIAD are growing. The group received a $10,000 grant from Americorps of Mississippi to make raised garden beds that make gardening easier for many of their senior citizen members.

” Each year we lose people because when they come and learn how to garden at the park they go home and start gardening again. So, generally we have a new group of people every year that comes and learns how to garden with us,”  Elmetra Patterson says.

Members of the gardening group meet once a week on Wednesdays to tend to their crops.
