Woman Dies After Being Hit by Truck

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. — A fatal accident involving a pedestrian occurred around 1:30 a.m. Thursday on Highway 182 near Highway 45 Alternate in Lowndes County.

A 2002 Dodge pickup driven by 27-year-old Charles Mays of Louisville was traveling West on 182 when it struck a 27-year-old female, Sharonica Puckett of Louisville Street in Starkville.

She was thrown several feet into the eastbound lane.

Puckett was reportedly walking in the roadway after leaving a disabled vehicle of which she was a passenger.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant says the car had run out of gas. The male driver was still in the car.

Puckett was pronounced dead at the scene by Merchant. The driver of the pickup was not injured.
