COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Not everyone gets to sleep late Christmas morning. Many businesses close on Christmas and most people enjoy the day with their loved ones. Sprint Mart near the Leigh Mall in Columbus is open for business every day of the year.

“Everybody’s closed on (Highway)45 except for us and another location but I guess they want us to stay open just in cast you got to get the last minute items,” says Sprint Mart Cashier, Sonya Miller.

Police officers, fire fighters and hospital staff also answer the call of duty on Christmas. Jeff Bates is working at Baptist Memorial Hospital this Christmas. He says he isn’t bothered by it all.

“To work on Christmas, it’s ok as long as I know already know I have to work. When I get off today, I’m just going to go back home, go to bed and work tomorrow,” says Bates.

Those who work on Christmas Day say it’s not so bad. They can earn overtime pay and still find some time to celebrate with family and friends.

“Well when I get off, I’m going to go get my grand-baby and open his presents at the house. It’s ok to work because we only had four hours to work today and I had the morning shift so I’m getting off at about 11 o’clock. I’ll be done,” says Michelle Johnson, who also works for Sprint Mart.

If you are looking for a quick bite to eat, McDonald’s is also open on Christmas.
