WPPD Investigates Weekend Robbery

WEST POINT, Miss. (Press Release) — The West Point Police Department is hunting down leads on an armed robbery suspect.

Just before midnight last Friday, police were dispatched to Texaco station at 1404 Highway 45 North in reference to an armed robbery.

Personnel at the store reported to police that a man allegedly came into the store with a cloth covering his head and face. When told by the store clerk to remove the cloth, the man went behind the counter and allegedly displayed a knife. He demanded that the clerk give him the money from the register and then fled the store on foot.

Police searched the area and also a nearby neighborhood, but could not locate the robber.

The suspect is described only as a black male wearing black pants, a black shirt with black shoes. He reportedly had on gray gloves and had a red garment over his head.

The robber left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The store does have video surveillance, which is being reviewed as a part of the investigation.

West Point Police Chief Tim Brinkley is encouraging local businesses to make sure their camera systems are up and running as offenses of this nature tend to increase slightly leading up to the holiday season.

“Some businesses need to upgrade old or antiquated systems and some may need to simply make sure their systems are operating,” Brinkley said.

This crime is under investigation, and information leading to an arrest in this case could lead to a reward of up to $1,000.

Anyone with information is asked to call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151 or the West Point Police Department at 662-494-1244.
