WPPD Investigating Multiple Handy Mart Armed Robberies

WEST POINT, Miss. (Press Release) — The West Point Police Department is investigating the armed robbery of a local convenience store.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday, police were dispatched to the Handy Mart convenience store on Highway 45 alternate north. Officers were told by a store clerk that a black male entered the store and pulled a knife. He demanded money from the register but the clerk fled the store before opening in the cash drawer.

The offender then fled the scene as well without taking any money from the store and ran east on foot. He was described only as a black male about 6-foot-3-inches tall wearing a black waist length coat and jeans. He had a toboggan pulled over his face.

Afterward, police were dispatched about 2:50 a.m. Monday back to the same location in reference to a robbery. This time it was reported that the perpetrator pulled a knife and threatened the cashier. He fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. This time he was described as a black male wearing a black bubble coat, blue jeans and a skull cap that was covering his face with hole cut out for the eyes.

This is the third incident of this nature at this particular store two months.

Sept. 26, an unknown person robbed the store and fled after taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the register.

“We think the same subject is responsible for all of these incidents,” West Point Police Chief Tim Brinkley said. “Police are following up on a few leads and hope to make an arrest in this case soon.”

This case is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151 or the West Point Police Department at 662-494-1244.
