Yellow Creek Port To Get New Leader

Jackson, Miss. (September 9, 2015) – Robert Dexter, of Tupelo, has been named executive director of Yellow Creek Port, a state-owned port near the confluence of the Tennessee and Tombigbee rivers in Iuka, Miss. Dexter will be sworn Thursday.
Dexter is the former operations start up manager for GRAMMER, Inc., a German-based manufacturer of seating components to the automotive industry. Parent company GRAMMER AG announced its decision to locate a plant in Tupelo, Miss. in November 2013. Dexter was subsequently hired to manage the greenfield project in preparation for the plant’s opening, which included negotiating vendor and service contracts, recruiting and training employees as well as managing incentive programs from the state of Mississippi.
“Robert Dexter is a respected leader in the Northeast Mississippi’s business community with a proven record of success,” said MDA Executive Director Glenn McCullough, Jr. “Robert is committed to growing Mississippi’s economy, and I have faith he will do a great job as executive director of Yellow Creek Port. Mississippi is blessed with navigable waterways on three borders providing the state a strategic competitive business advantage and the Port and state will benefit from Robert’s leadership.”
Prior to GRAMMER, Dexter was operations manager for Southern Components, Inc. in Tupelo, which provides seating components to the furniture industry in Northeast Mississippi. During the 10 years he spent with the company, Dexter played a key role in increasing net income and reducing accidents and liabilities while managing the accounting, human resources and production departments.
“Yellow Creek Port Authority Board is glad to have Mr. Robert Dexter as the new port manager,” said Port Authority President Benny DeVaugh. “He is a man that has proven himself in business and will be a good manager to carry the Port forward.”
Dexter has a master’s degree in business administration from Mississippi State University and holds bachelor’s degrees in accountancy and organizational management from the University of Mississippi and Concordia University, respectively.
