Yellow Creek Property Set For Transfer

The U.S. Senate has given final approval to transferring Yellow Creek Port property in northeast Mississippi from federal control to state control.

A bill passed the Senate Thursday, weeks after it passed the House in September. It is headed to President Barack Obama, and a spokesman for U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss., says the president is expected to sign it into law. It was supported by both of Mississippi’s senators and all four of its House members.

A news release from Cochran and U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., says the bill authorizes the Tennessee Valley Authority to transfer about 173 acres of the Yellow Creek Port to Mississippi for commercial and manufacturing development.

The Mississippi Legislature in 2011 authorized the state to receive the property after a successful environmental assessment.
