Young Girls Giving Back To Elders For Christmas

MACON, MISS. (WCBI) – – Blessing the elderly is what a young group of girls in Noxubee County did this morning.

Blessing bags filled with soap, toothpaste, and toothbrushes served with hot soup and sandwiches, filled the hearts and stomachs of elders in the community. The founder of Black Girls Rock of Mississippi, Santee Ezell says the elders were very thankful.

“I think they’re excited, they’re happy. We know a lot of elderly don’t get much, I guess attention, a lot of people visiting, so this is a good thing for them to come out to, mingle, see who we are, and see what we can do.”

The Pink Peals is a mentoring group of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. These young girls wanted to make sure the elders are feeling loved this holiday season says Pink Pearls Adviser, Kasondra Clanton.

“They just give back to the community and this is something that they came up with doing after they saw that they did it in Calhoun City. They just wanted to give bags back to our elders, and feed them, give them a meal during the holiday season.”

The fifty-five member group worked together and provided the blessing bags and blankets themselves. Member, Tura Dora says it’s a great feeling to give back.

“Whenever we can give back to the community, it’s a blessing to give to others.”

The girls plan on making this is an annual project. Member, Natyia Harris says it’s important to show love to the elders.

“One day we’re going to be like this, we’re going to want to be served like this and we’re just giving back to the community.”
