CALEDONIA, Miss. (WCBI) – A Lowndes County State Senator tells students how government works.

The Caledonia 8th grade Mississippi Studies class heard from District 17 Senator Chuck Younger on Wednesday morning.

He talked about his role in Jackson and how state laws are made.

Students were also able to ask questions.

Afterwards, he talked with WCBI about the state’s crumbling infrastructure.

Younger says he is not in favor of using the Rainy Day Fund to fix state roads.

“If we need to generate money, say for our roads and our infrastructure, I think we need to add a tax gas. Put tax on the gas and on the diesel. If it’s going to be spent strictly for that, I’m in favor of that,” said R – Younger.

Mississippi’s current gas tax is 18 cents.

The Legislature convenes in January.
