Video: Youths — 10 and 14 — Charged in Truck Theft, Other Crimes

STARKVILLE, Miss. (Press Release) — On December 29, 2014 at approximately 10:15 a.m., the Starkville Police Department responded to Cruise Street in regard to a “suspicious vehicle” call that had been abandoned.

Two black male subjects were seen running from the abandoned vehicle, a black Audi A6. Officers identified the vehicle as being stolen from the N. Montgomery Street area.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., the Starkville Police Department responded to a stolen vehicle call from Seville Place. The vehicle was a 2014 black Ford F250.

Shortly after the report was received, a Starkville Police Narcotics Supervisor located the stolen vehicle on Lynn Lane. The vehicle was occupied by two black male subjects.

The supervisor initiated a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over. A pursuit was initiated by SPD and the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department assisted. The stolen vehicle fled from officers on Lynn Lane, Industrial Street, Highway 12, and wrecked in the parking lot of Army Navy Store.

Officers immediately apprehended the driver, a 10-year-old black male. The passenger fled the scene armed with a 9 mm handgun which belonged to the owner of the stolen truck.

Officers coordinated a perimeter and apprehended the passenger, a 14-year-old black male, on Whitfield Street without injury to any parties involved.

The two juveniles were charged with multiple counts of grand larceny and other charges may be pending. They were later released to the custody of their parents.

Police Chief Frank Nichols said, “The responding officers demonstrated significant discipline and professionalism that prevented this criminal event from becoming a national tragedy.”
