MILLPORT, Ala. (WCBI) – The Stallions showed progression in winning five games under head coach Shannon McGregory in 2014, including a 1A playoff game.

“Record-wise it could have been a little better,” McGregory said. “We were pretty much in every game that we played. I was very proud of how the season went.”

The program has moved past its poor performance in 2012 when the team didn’t win game. Now, McGregory’s seniors have had three years to learn the ropes. The Stallions only lost three to four starters on both sides of the ball from last year.

“We’re going to run the ball and people know that,” McGregory said. “We’re going to run the ball, then throw it.”

When South Lamar goes to the air, the task will belong to senior Kyle Redmond. He runs a 4.48 40 yard dash and is drawing interest at the next level in both football and baseball. That’s one of the reasons to be optimistic.

“I’m excited about it. I’m really looking forward to see how this season unfolds. It’s kind of like Christmas. There’s a big box there and you don’t know what’s inside. It could be something small. It could be something big,” McGregory said of the 2015 season.

The Stallions start the season hosting rival Vernon August 21.
