Former Noxubee Tiger Nominated as Candidate for 2015 Conerly Trophy

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI/MS Hall of Fame) — Jackson State has nominated junior defensive end Javancy Jones as the school’s candidate for the 2015C Spire Conerly Trophy.

Jones, from football hotbed Noxubee County, leads the Tigers in tackles with 68, tackles for losses with 13 and sacks with four.

Jones was the SWAC’s Freshman of the Year in 2013 and led the Tigers in tackles as a sophomore with 108.

Jones is the third nominee for the Conerly, following Mississippi State’s Dak Prescott and Mississippi College’s Marcel Newson.

Mississippi’s 10 football playing senior colleges all nominate a finalist for the C Spire Conerly Trophy. Schools have until Nov. 23 to nominate a finalist for the award.

The Dec. 1 awards program will include a reception at 5:30 p.m. and a 6:30 p.m. banquet. Tickets, $100 each, are available by calling the MSHOF at 601 982-8264.
