ICC Outfielder and Former Golden Wave Baseball Star Commits to Arkansas-Little Rock

FULTON, Miss. (WCBI/LetsGoICC.com) — Itawamba Community College sophomore outfielder Cody Shrewsbury announced his intentions to sign with the University of Arkansas Little Rock baseball program Thursday afternoon.

Sophomore outfielder/pitcher Cody Shrewsbury is expected to play D1 college baseball at Arkansas-Little Rock next year.

Shrewsbury, who also sees time as a relief pitcher, is currently batting .293 with a .388 on-base and .378 slugging percentages. He has 12 RBI on four doubles and one home run while scoring eight runs and stealing a pair of bases for Coach Rick Collier and the Indians (13-15, 4-6 North).

Defensively, the Tupelo High School graduate has a .914 fielding percentage with 24 put outs, eight assists and three errors in 35 total chances as an outfielder and pitcher to go along with his 4.91 ERA and five strike outs in 7.1 innings of work.

During his freshman season at ICC, Shrewsbury earned First-Team All-State and All-Region honors after batting .381 with a .422 on-base percentage to go along with 37 RBI, 37 runs, 15 doubles and a team-high seven home runs to help the Indians finish 39-13 and win the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) North Division championship along with advancing to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 semifinals.

The University of Arkansas Little Rock baseball team is a member of the Sun Belt Conference.

Shrewsbury will be the fifth member of this year’s squad to sign with a DI program with former All-American pitcher Ben Hudspeth (Tupelo) signed with Mississippi State, shortstop Tyler Tipton (Shelbyville, KY) signed with Kentucky, pitcher Dylan Earnest (Hamilton) signed Southeastern Louisiana and pitcher/outfielder Jake Smith (Columbus) signed with North Alabama during the early signing period.
