MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WCBI Sports) – It was a nightmare scenario at the Liberty Bowl Saturday for the Ole Miss football team.

Memphis, which was receiving votes in the recent AP poll, stunned the No. 13 Rebels 37-24, leading after the 2:52 mark in the second quarter. Ole Miss (5-2, 2-1 SEC) gave up 491 yards of offense (384 through  the air) to the Tigers, allowing Memphis to convert 12 of its 20 third down attempts.

Ole Miss took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on two touchdown passes, one from junior wide receiver Laquon Treadwell. But Memphis led 24-14 at halftime, taking its largest lead at 31-14 three-and-a-half minutes into the third quarter.

Junior quarterback Chad Kelly threw for 372 yards on 33-for-47 yards passing, throwing two touchdowns and two interceptions. He set the single-season school record with five 300-plus yard games as a Rebel. Treadwell caught 14 passes, a program-record, for 144 yards and a touchdown.

The Rebels mustered just 40 yards rushing.
