Mississippi State Hires Gonzales to Coach WR

Mississippi State has hired former Illinois co-offensive coordinator Billy Gonzales to be its wide receivers coach.

Gonzales has a longtime connection with Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen, working with him for eight years at Bowling Green, Utah and Florida.

Gonzales spent one season at Illinois, where the offensive struggled as the Fighting Illini finished with a 2-10 record. But the veteran coach has a long record of success and was on the staff at Florida when the Gators won national championships in 2006 and 2008. He was also on LSU’s staff when the Tigers made the title game in 2011.

Former MSU receivers coach Tim Brewster moves to tight ends coach. The school also announced Brewster will also add the title of assistant head coach.
